How Can sore Throat Along With Fever Be Treated?

Yes, I have a terrific sore throat painful to swallow. Started with body aches and low grade fever, which lasted 2 days, now throat is killing me, with swollen tonsils. I have enough left over minocycline I was taking for my acne, will this be ok in case it is strep? Or should I go do a swab at my doctor

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have developed an upper respiratory tract infection. You need to get yourself checked by an ENT as you have mentioned that you have developed swollen tonsils.

It is preferable to get a throat swab done so that appropriate antibiotic can be prescribed.

Minocycline does work in upper respiratory tract infections too but you should consult your physician before starting it.Do warm betadine gargles atleast twice daily.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
